American Dreamers
Ellis and me ended up in Whispering Meadow trailer park, in Afton, Indiana. Yeah, we had a house, a reg life, but we got in too much credit-card debt and lost everything. The trailer next to my brother Harley opened up after the old people who lived there died off. We moved in the next day. (It was better than the $330-a-month motel flop.)
Everything was going okay. Then Andy, the park owner, threw a chili cook-off at the community center. Everyone, (nearly all 64 park residents!) brought a big crockpot of chili to share. Now Ellis by this time (we had lived there under the constant threat of eviction for 3 months) was steamed and he was drinking beer and he left the party. I said good riddance.
That’s when all hell broke loose. Ellis plowed his Dodge pickup right through the plate-glass windows. 27 people died on impact. Another 9 were injured.
The authorities were on the scene immediately. Ellis was no where to be found. I gave them the names and addresses of Ellis’ relatives. Still nothing (although the cops did do two raids.)
Everyone in the park was pissed. They hated me. But for some reason they went after Harley. I guess it was because Ellis and Harley were friends. Anyway, Harley is a Vietnam vet and he has the interior of his trailer decorated in expensive Vietnamese tapestries, and he has war paraphernalia. Some said he had an arsenal in there...shotguns and other rifles including automatics and at least a handful of hand guns. They lined every war, they said. Some joker even accused Harley of having live grenades.
Now I love my brother but he does have a bad rep, especially when it comes to slapping around exwives. The big porno collection wasn’t a good thing either. Okay he is quite a bastard.
So to quiet the trailer park scags and rags and hags, the authorities gave up on Ellis and went after Harley. They found him hiding in a dug-out hole under his trailer. He is now up for trial.
It doesn’t seem right that Harley should be paying for Ellis’ crimes but police will serve up a criminal to appease the public. Especially when he had no WMDs.
Ellis is still at large.

I am in a mountainous area. I went out picture-taking. Sounds simple enough. But I don't want ANY symbols of man inhabiting my photos. We have littered the landscape with signs, poles, posts, houses, barns, and crappy litter. There are less than 17,000 people in this entire county. You would think this would be easy. Nope.
