Don't Know Why
I waited 'til I saw the sun
I don't know why I didn't come
I left you by the house of fun
I don't know why I didn't come
I don't know why I didn't come
When I saw the break of day
I wished that I could fly away
Instead of kneeling in the sand
Catching teardrops in my hand
My heart is drenched in wine
But you'll be on my mind
Forever
Out across the endless sea
I would die in ecstasy
But I'll be a bag of bones
Driving down the road along
My heart is drenched in wine
But you'll be on my mind
Forever
Something has to make you run
I don't know why I didn't come
I feel as empty as a drum
I don't know why I didn't come
I don't know why I didn't come
I don't know why I didn't come

I just had a most frightening thought. Say our government comes to it’s senses and decides to pull back from the war. How could they do that and save face?
Wait…first they would need to bold enough to do it. And how difficult would that be? We already have troops there and others positioned to go. We have spilt war rhetoric all over the world. Men are never ever good at saying they were wrong or in changing their position. Even when a man has made a bad choice he would rather stick on course than admit that he was wrong. It would cut right to the bone of what a man is.
So if the government could step up and stand down how could they do it? The military would lose faith and have major morale problems. Those soldiers are hyped for war. I could say they were seething at the mouth but I don’t want to get to graphic and I don’t want to PRESUME!
So many other things are primed for war too. Even the stock market is in a way frozen by the act of standing on the fence.
But war is horrific. We can be strong and bold and we can stand up and say…We have reassessed the situation and we have decided to wait. Then thank the soldiers for being ready to defend our country. Then thank the citizens. The government then looks compassion and NOT hell-bent on war. Allies would flock to our side. The stock market goes back to stock-marketing. Jobs open up. The economy gets better. And if Saddam gets crazy, well we will be ready to blow his head off.

I just finished listening to Colin Powell's plea for war. I am not convinced. Primarily the whole thing strikes a discord in my ear. I wasn't quite sure what is was, but now I think I am getting a handle on it. My analogy is this: Say you know of a thug in your neighborhood...wait this one might be better: Say you know of a family that has LOTS of guns in their home. They might have a whole arsenal of other weapons as well. You can't just blindly say that they are a hazard to your survival. Even if they cuss and are rude and they leave junk all over their yard and yell at you over the fence. They can't be persecuted. They can't be killed.
I think that is the problem. It is one of presumption. You can't presume. Hell if you could do that everyone would be in jail or a least be in trouble.
Even an accused murderer who has done his or her time can't be taken in merely on the idea that this horrible felon will commit another horrific crime until they actually do a crime. And that is why we have to wait.
